just been looking at these hammocks on Hunting and Outdoor Supplies

they look pretty sweet & from what i read they are up there in the Hammocking world, allong with the warbonnet blackbird hammocks.
but i think no one here sells the warbonnet hammocks here??
Not sure if this has already been yarnd about, but anyone got 1? used 1? they comfy? good or dum?

Yeah I'm pretty keen for one on hunts alone where I don't have to find flat clear ground which can be a issues some times.
Watch the weight ratings if you're a larger bloke . . . . the scout models are for the wee guys
Never used one - but am watching this space - they intrigue me
I use mine quite a bit and like it a lot. If the temperature is much below about 10 degrees then it starts to get quite cold...I've slept in temps below freezing in it and had very uncomfortable nights sleep (read half frozen to death) even in a very good down bag as there's no insulation under you as the downs compressed so looses its insulating properties. Kept me dry in pretty heavy rain too!
I like them though and would recommend them!
I have one that is the highest weight rating (118KG from memory). They are excellent but are cold in the winter as matt says. You can put one up in less than 5 minutes
I have one I have never used and doubt I ever will. Not that they are no good I just don't have time to try out. If anyone is keen I'd be willing to sell it.

Just go for the big fly. Love mine for Fiordland cause at times a little bit of flat dry land around there is easier said than done.
Keep forgetting to get the cook to sew in a pocket for the sleeping matt which is a must. Compressed sleeping bags do nothing....
They are great, but you HAVE to have an insulating mat underneath you. I use a full length 1" thermarest and have never been cold evening camping up high. I am 6'4" and have a regular one, but would probably be better with a larger one. They do take a bit of getting used to though. I get a sore back sleeping on the ground, but don't in the hammock.
G'day James. I have joined the local search and rescue and the hammocks are very popular because of their light weight and comfort. I am going to buy one but I am 6'4" so I am looking for the Explorer, preferably the ultralite but I am flexible depending on price. Do you still have it and which model is it?Quote:

The mat is 3mm foam backed with some sort of aluminised foil, perfect for reflecting body heat.
It folds into two with the aliminuim side facing out giving a 6mm layer of protection and fits perfectly inside the hammock to make it nice an cosy.
I haven't tried it at altutude yet but I am planning on using it on the Galatea faces in June and at Cold Kiwi in September.
The Hennessy Hamock is very comfortable to sleep and with the mat weighs about the same as my one man tent but I would like a bigger fly to also cook under.

Insulating mat is a must
Used mine quite a bit, actually worn out one and I'm on my second.
I even have the super shelter system. I find it produces too much heat and creates uncomfortable sleep. Haven't had the chance to use this in snow yet or above the bush line as I normally use a fly in those situations.
The hammock it self is fantastic. I have some very inventive way to lash it.
However, don't treat it as a solution to all sleeping arrangements. Use it where you need the right tool for the job.
